VideoDrive 3 was a big release for us, and as with all software, we had some bug fixing to do. And so we did: today we’re releasing our first update to version 3, with fixes that should also improve reliability and compatibility with OS X Yosemite and iTunes 12. Specifically, if you had trouble adding MP4 videos to iTunes, you’ll be happy to know this update addresses that issue. We’ve also introduced some new features that didn’t make it in version 3.0. And we moved some stuff around. Here’s an overview:

Foreign affairs

If you like foreign movies (who doesn’t??), you noticed movie titles and TV show names always appeared in their original language. While that’s cool and it helps you learn other languages, it can be hard to remember your video titles. So we’ve added an option to save titles in your own language, the original language the movie or TV Shows was produced in, or plain old English. By default, your own language is chosen, and this is based on the country and language settings of OS X. You can change the option on the Metadata tab of Preferences.

Downloading stuff

Downloading videos and want to queue them automatically?  We’ve added support for partially downloaded files with the PART extension, as for instance used by the excellent torrent client Transmission. VideoDrive will now queue these files until they are downloaded completely. If you’re using another download client, VideoDrive will monitor the file size of your downloads to determine if they’re completed or not.

Copy or move

Until now, iTunes-compatible files (MP4, MP4 and MOV) were moved in the iTunes library to save time. But if you prefer to take a copy, you can now set this option on the File Location tab of Preferences.

Metadata

We renamed the metadata options on the Main Window to better clarify the purpose of the Metadata Editor. In the process, we had to move the option to “Ask for confirmation before saving metadata” to the Metadata Tab of Preferences. Let us know what you think about this move! We also cleaned up some settings regarding Presets, but we’ll explain that later in a separate post.

New video formats

VideoDrive now supports three new video formats: EVO, PVA and OGM. Not that you have those anyway, but just in case!

So, it’s time to update! VideoDrive 3.0.01 is a free update for users of Videodrive 3. If you’re not notified about the update, click VideoDrive in the menu bar and choose ‘Check for Updates…”

Happy holidays!
